Hoarding Photos

Like most people, I switched from film to digital photography what seems like ages ago. The convenience of the format, the flexibility, the possibilities cannot be beat when it comes to options for digital artwork. Well, I have to admit that I kind of admit that I miss that old-school process. When you were complete with a roll of film, you take it to the local walgreen’s, wolf camera, what-have-you, and get that sucker developed. You then proceed to trade in the blurries and the baddies for a fraction of your money back and into the album these prints went.

Things have changed. I can store over 200 hi-res photos on a memory card… that’s right. Not 24 exposures, over 200 digital captures of my fancy. Nine time out of ten, the blurries and the baddies have been deleted in the blink of an eye, and on to iPhoto they go.

“Ooooh, that one would look good in a scrap book…”

“Sweet. This one is perfect for one of my facebook albums.”

Sound familiar? Where do these captures currently live? On a hardrive… or burned to dvd. Not being shared with friends. Not being ooh’ed and ah’ed over by family. Just sitting… swinging in a rocking chair waiting for their opportunity to shine.

There are so many options and means of sharing these days; it’s a shame I’ve resorted to hoarding instead. I like to think that maybe, just maybe one day I’ll take the time to showcase some of the precious ones…
